My name is Helena. I am a wife, a mother and a Marine Biologist. I come from a huge, amazing family and I was raised to believe that women can do anything. I strongly believe that we are only contained by our own limitations.
I am an athiest because I grew up in the land of myth and I see religion as more of the same. I see no difference in believing in one god or the gods of Mount Olympus. It's all a crutch for those unable to think for themselves, and a way for tptb to control the masses. It is no coincidence that the most educated countries are also the least religious.
I believe in a woman's right to choose what happens to her body but I also believe in personal responsibility. I believe in sex education in all schools and free contraception. Sex Ed equals good choices and most children who are fully armed with information wait longer to begin sexual relationships than those left in ignorance despite what the crazies will tell you.
I believe that people who believe in Creationism have a screw loose, and it should not be taught in school. IMHO the same applies to all religious doctrine except as a general subject (perhaps in mythology classes).
This all takes me neatly to........Sarah Palin *shudder*
I believe that Sarah Palin should horrify every woman who has ever thanked those brave women who fought for our rights throughout history. She represents everything that is wrong in America and if McCain and Palin get into the White House I really dread to think where the next 4 to 8 years take us.
